Lures Chesapeake Chachos

Lures Chesapeake Chachos Lures Chesapeake Chachos Crab Cake Review

Lures is a local watering hole that prides itself on its extensive craft beer selection and regional cuisine, and has been around since 2008.  They were even voted Best Hidden Gem by the Annapolis What's Up? Mag in 2011.  Just glance around the place, and you'll wonder what they love more -- beer or fishing.  The two naturally go hand-in-hand, so for now we'll call it even.

Switching over to the menu, there are a lot of Maryland classics on there, as well as Lures' own unique twist on those classics.  For example, you can go the classic route and order the Cream of Crab soup.  Or you can get fancy and try their Jalapeño Corn Crab Chowder.  Their take on nachos also follows this pattern, which is the focus of our review.  How was it?  Read on and find out!

Chesapeake Chachos are made of homemade Old Bay potato chips, melted havarti cheese, pico de gallo, jumbo lump crab meat, shrimp, sour cream and green onions.  If you are with someone who isn't down with crabs (why, I have no idea!), then they also offer the Nacho Chachos, but they are in fact nothing like the Chesapeake Chachos (for one, they're based on tortilla chips, not Old Bay chips).

The first thing we noticed was the amount of onions topping the mound of chips -- far too many for it to not conflict with the seafood flavors of the shrimp and crab.  Once you get through to the chips, you hardly notice the Old Bay flavor.  The plate overall ended up being a bit greasy between the chips and the havarti.  There was a fair amount of crab and shrimp, and the crab was tasty.  But overall, the plate was a bit of a let down.  Better to save your cash and spend it on their tastier offerings, like that Jalapeño Corn Crab Chowder mentioned earlier.
