Marchionda's

Marchionda's is a family-owned and operated fine Italian restaurant in the Parkville section of Baltimore. Looking on a map, it may seem like it's in a familiar section. If you thought that, then you'd be right! Marchionda's is in the same location where Angelina's used to be in July of 2013. It's certainly not what the place used to be, with a fresh makeover that brings some class without being overly fancy. It's what dinner out should be like. And Marchionda's continues the tradition of crab cakes started by the former tenants. Do they live up to the tradition? Let's find out!

A long time ago, there was a bar tucked away amongst the windy back roads around Loch Raven Reservoir called Sander's Corner. This building has a long history dating back to the 1950s, serving once as a blacksmith shop, post office, and several restaurants. Today, it remains a restaurant, whose full name is McFaul's Ironhorse Tavern at Sander's Corner. The kitchen focuses on local and seasonal dishes, putting together items that are both family friendly and have a local twist. Our favorite local item, of course, would be the crab cakes. Are they worthy of a trip out of the city? We went to check it out, so read along and see how it went down!

Michael's Cafe

One of Baltimore Magazine's Top 25 Crab Cakes of 2013! Michael's Cafe dates back to 1984, when the Dellis family opened a restaurant where they focused on quality, service, and atmosphere. Fast forward 30 years, and that winning combination, in addition to a world-famous crab cake recipe, has Michael's Cafe going strong, recently completing their third major renovation that adds an inside lounge and an outdoor patio. Considered one of Baltimore's top crab cakes year after year, we just had to stop by and pay our respects. Was the hype worth the trip? Read on and find out!

Mo's Seafood

Mo's Seafood is no stranger to the CCR. In fact, Mo's Crab and Pasta Factory was one of our very first reviews. Just in case you're not familiar, Mo's Seafood has been serving quality seafood in the Baltimore area for more than 25 years. There are 5 locations around the area, with a 6th coming to White Marsh. Despite our experience at the Factory with the backfin crab cakes, friend of the CCR, Donna F, had enthusiastically urged us to go to Mo's back in 2012. So it was finally time to revisit Mo's at a different location. Was it worth the trip? Let's find out!

Ocean Pride has been gracing the Lutherville/Timonium area since 1971. At that time, the place was owned by Robert Curreri. The Bielski brothers worked at Ocean Pride as crab steamers from the time the place opened until 1980. Then, in 2004, they bought the place and have been running it ever since. Not only has Ocean Pride been acknowledged as some of Baltimore's best crabs, they also have a store onsite that sells seafood (such as crabs, crab cakes, lobsters, etc.), adult beverages, and restaurant swag (t-shirts, coolers, etc.). The CCR stopped by to see how their crab cakes stack up against everyone else's. Read on to see how they were!
