Half Pints Homemade Maryland Crab Cake Half Pints Homemade Maryland Crab Cake Crab Cake Review

Half Pints was started by an Englishman who moved to the States over 20 years ago, who earned the nickname due to his stature. It is considered a sports pub as opposed to a sports bar, most likely because there are way more TVs than your typical English pub, and the carpet doesn't look like something the Queen herself picked out. If the Ravens or Orioles games didn't lure you in, then it was most likely the smell of smoked meats coming from the smoker around the corner. Once you step inside, you are embraced with the wafting aromas of fried. Yes, pub grub is served, but so are homemade crab cakes. Read on to see how the English fare with our beloved Maryland crab cakes!

There are a few different ways to get your crab cake fix: in a wrap, served with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise; as a sandwich, served on a kaiser roll with lettuce and tomato; or as a single or double entree, served with fries and cole slaw, as well as your choice of cocktail or tarter sauce. The sandwich and entree give you the option of cooking your crab cake fried or broiled. All prices are market price.

Even before you dig a fork in, you can tell this is a real deal crab cake. Moist, but not saucy, and comprised of mostly broken pieces of crab, with a few larger lumps in the mix. All that crabby goodness is bound together with a mixture of mayonnaise and bread, mixed together with some spices. The binder is kept to a minimum, allowing them to pack as much crab in the cake as possible. It's almost Maryland style, but not so heavy on the breading.

This crab cake is awesome! The crab meat is nice and sweet, and the flavor is consistent throughout. The spicing is kept to a sane level, accentuating the crab meat without overpowering. Both the crab and the spice work really well together. While the breading is kept to a minimum, it adds more texture than anything else, although it does give a nice background flavor. The focus is kept on the crab, which is such a delight when the quality of the crab is this good.
