Jerry's Seafood has been seen on the CCR before, back in March when we reviewed their famous Crab Bomb.  But there were more tempting treats on the menu that drew us back.  In case you missed their first review, Jerry's Seafood has been serving seafood to the DC area for over 25 years.  Instead of serving everything that swims in the sea, they instead concentrate on providing quality instead of quantity.  While the Crab Bomb didn't exactly blow us away, we gave them another chance for redemption.  Was it worth a return visit?  There's only one way to find out.  Read on!

Jerry's Seafood offers crab cakes in Original and Firecracker flavors, baked or fried, with no filler.  All entrees served with warm bread and butter, and choice of 2 sides.  If you haven't noticed, we have a thing for crab cakes, so we went all crazy and ordered one of each, requesting the Firecracker to be baked, and the Original to be fried.  The review is based on the Original, but we'll still give our thoughts on the Firecracker.

Original:
This cake has awesome crab flavor! Your typical jumbo lump crab cake with a mayonnaise/Dijon base, but kicked up a notch with some pepper sprinkled on top for a little extra kick. Creamy binder brings some flavor to the mix, but knows who the star of the show is and lets the crab sing. Pepper ends up being a bit much, but still appreciative. If you don't like peppery crabs, ask for them to not put any on, or to go light.  Fried is perfectly done -- crusty outside but moist inside. Squirt a little lemon on for a special treat.

Firecracker:
The Firecracker version of the Original ends up being the same crab cake with a LOT more pepper. We found this to be a bit overdone. The pepper overpowers the crab flavor, and is the only flavor you can notice. No other real discernable flavor but pepper.

While the Firecracker was good to experience, as we do appreciate a twist on the traditional crab cake, unless you are looking for something completely different, we'd suggest you stick with the Original.  But if you don't want to take our word for it, then do what we did and order one of each.  Try the Original first, though, as the pepper flavor does last.
