Blue Hill Tavern
When you first hear where Blue Hill Tavern is located, you don't quite know what to expect. On the edge of Canton, more commonly known as Brewers Hill, lies the old Natty Boh brewery (which has since been turned into business and office space). So to know the area means that you may not have a favorable picture in your mind. Then you turn up at the Blue Hill Tavern and are just blown away. Stark in contrast, this 2-level establishment shows that upscale knows no neighborhood. It's someplace that you'll just have to experience for yourself. As for ourselves, we know that where there's Boh, there are crab cakes. And the Blue Hill Tavern delivers. Read on to see if they were worth the trip!
Crab cakes are available as a sandwich on the lunch menu (served with ruffle chips and a pickle), or as a double entree on the dinner menu (served with roasted corn, caper, and potato hash). On the particular night we visited, one of the specials was the Surf & Turf, which pairs an 8oz filet with a crab cake and the aforementioned hash. With the Surf & Turf, our meal was also served with a horseradish sauce, and a remoulade.
The crab cake is a pretty decent size, and packed tightly with mostly broken up pieces of jump lump crab meat. There were a couple of medium sized lumps in the mix, but not too many. All of that crab is bound together with what appeared to be a mix of bread, egg, and spices, which gave the cake a nice amount of moisture without making it too saucy or bready.
We thought this crab cake was outstanding! The crab had a super sweet flavor to it, and while the binder and spices let the crab steal the show, they were working in the background to support all of that crabby goodness. Aside from not breaking up the crab meat so much, we really couldn't find anything wrong with this crab cake. Don't believe us? Well, go visit the Blue Hill Tavern and see for yourself!
