Bonefish Grill
The Bonefish Grill is a national chain that delivers upscale food in a casual setting. Despite the fancy decor and servers in white chefs coats, you'll see people dressed in all sorts of attire, from fancy date night clothes down to shorts and flip flops. No matter what you wear, the quality of the food and the freshness of ingredients will still stay the same. And while the focus is mainly on fish, there are some dishes that originated on land as well. So what better dish to review than surf and turf? We couldn't think of anything better, either. So read along and find out how everything turned out!
Crab cakes are on the menu as a double entree, as a sandwich, or served alongside a big hunk of steak. Entrees are served with a seasonal vegetable and one side. The sandwich is served with fresh greens or house-made chips. Our entree came with a red pepper remoulade on the side.
Focusing on the crab cake, the cake itself has a saucy consistency, thanks to a binder mixture base of mayonnaise, and possibly some breadcrumbs and Dijon. While the crab wasn't in jumbo lumps, there were some sizable lumps amongst broken pieces. The spice is peppery, and not your typical seafood seasoning like Old Bay. The smell coming from the crab cake was very nice and inviting, letting you know what good things you're about to dig into.
While we had our reservations reviewing a national chain, the crab cake was actually very good. The crab meat was sweet while remaining meaty, and the main flavor attraction. You taste the crab first, then the binder, then the spice. The binder could have been reduced a bit, as it was a little too saucy in places. Also, the spice was a little hot in pockets as well. Something to consider if you're not a big pepper fan. While we thought the cake size was a bit small at first, once we unleashed all of the flavor inside, it ended up being rightly proportioned. Although if you really like your crab cakes, then go for the double entree.
