Weekly reviews of crab cakes around the MD and DC area

Chick and Ruth's Delly

You can't get any more 'local landmark' than Chick and Ruth's Delly.  Politicians, dignitaries, celebrities, locals, and tourists agree that your local Ma and Pa sandwich shop is certainly still worth visiting.  Where else can you order a sandwich named after a local politician, recite the Pledge of Allegiance each morning, and take on one of the the Colossal Challenges?  And now they have crab cakes available at the shop as well as mail order.  Are they really Crab Cake Central, as the sign outside indicates?  Read along and find out!

Claddagh Pub

Claddagh Pub is an Irish pub located in Canton Square, known for their Chesapeake Bay cuisine by day and dance club at night.  This place seems to have it all: neighborhood bar downstairs with a wide range of sports showing on the televisions, outside seating on both the sidewalk and an inner courtyard, and the upstairs area where DJs play and pool tables are to be found.  Claddagh's is probably more well known for being a bar than a restaurant.  And an Irish pub typically won't be foremost on your list of places to find crab cakes.  So how were they?  Read on!

Conrad's Seafood Restaurant

Conrad's started out back in 2003 as a seafood market on Joppa Rd. Since then, they have opened a seasonal location in Phoenix, a stand at Ripkin Stadium in Aberdeen, and their newest location, which is a full fledged bar and restaurant in Perry Hall (taking over the old Surf City location). Conrad's prides themselves on participating in the True Blue program, which is a voluntary labeling effort that lets you know the source of your crabs. Using local Maryland crabmeat is definitely the first ingredient in a quality crab cake, but you still have to bind and season it. Does Conrad's tread the crab properly? Follow along and find out!

Corner Stable

The Corner Stable has been around since 1972, proudly boasting that they serve Baltimore's best ribs at their location on York Rd. in Timonium.  If you've ever been, then you know what a unique place this is.  A small, somewhat triangular, shack alongside a busy road; limited parking wherever you can find it; and horse racing decor on the inside.  It was usually dark, and what most people would consider a dive.  But look past all that and check out the line waiting to get in, sometimes overflowing outside.

Ribs is certainly what they are known for, and if you haven't been, then you are missing out.  My family has been going to the Timonium location at least once a year for a long time now.  No matter how far away we move, we still find a way back to enjoy those delicious ribs.  But, a few years ago, the restaurant was sold to new owners, and the secret rib recipe passed on.  The new owners also expanded the menu, offering Maryland's beloved crab cakes, and recently opened a second location in Columbia.  So do the crab cakes stand a chance in the shadow of their famous ribs?  Read on and find out!
