Weekly reviews of crab cakes around the MD and DC area

Lib's Grill

Lib's Grill is a new venture from a well known Italian restaurant chain, Liberatore's. Instead of opening yet another Italian restaurant location, they opened a new raw bar concept (which happens to be a few doors down from one of their Italian restaurant locations). You'll find an extensive oyster bar, in addition to steaks, sandwiches, flatbreads, and seafood. Which, of course, includes crab cakes. Do they use the same recipe as their parent restaurant, or did they come up with their own unique take? Let's find out!

Lures Chesapeake Chachos

Lures is a local watering hole that prides itself on its extensive craft beer selection and regional cuisine, and has been around since 2008.  They were even voted Best Hidden Gem by the Annapolis What's Up? Mag in 2011.  Just glance around the place, and you'll wonder what they love more -- beer or fishing.  The two naturally go hand-in-hand, so for now we'll call it even.

Switching over to the menu, there are a lot of Maryland classics on there, as well as Lures' own unique twist on those classics.  For example, you can go the classic route and order the Cream of Crab soup.  Or you can get fancy and try their Jalapeño Corn Crab Chowder.  Their take on nachos also follows this pattern, which is the focus of our review.  How was it?  Read on and find out!

Main Street Tower

Part of the original 42 lots of Bel Air, the Main Street Tower's location has been many things over the past two centuries. A hotel, another restaurant, a barber shop, a stationary store, and a pool hall, amongst other things. But since 2002, it has been Main Street's family-oriented Italian restaurant and lounge owned and operated by the Buontempo family (who also own a pizzeria on the same block). Despite being mainly Italian, they do offer one of the region's favorited delicacies -- crab cakes! Read on to see how they were!

Mama Belle's

Wholesale clubs are definitely an experience, especially when you get to the food isles. Free samples, nuclear-fallout-shelter-sized packages, super-sized carts, and just about anything you could ever want in bulk (along with a few things that you never knew you wanted in bulk). When it comes to the food, there is the age old question, "Will I like this enough to eat it for the next 5 months?" Or maybe "Will my party guests unfriend me on Facebook if I serve them this?" Especially around the Mid Atlantic region, serving crab cakes will make you the party host of the year. The only problem is that they need to be good. Are the crab cakes they sell at BJ's good enough for your party? Let's find out!

Mo's Crab and Pasta Factory

On the edge of Little Italy sits Mo's Seafood.  If you have ever driven from the Inner Harbor to Fells Point, you most likely have past by this icon under the name Mo's Fishermans Wharf.  This, however, is not that Mo's.  Believe it or not, there is another Mo's in Little Italy, owned by the same restaurant group, right around the corner (there are 5 in all, scattered around the area) under the name Mo's Crab and Pasta Factory.  Tucked away behind Della Notte, if you weren't directed there, you would have probably missed it.  But the question on all of your minds is:  How were the crab cakes?
