Weekly reviews of crab cakes around the MD and DC area

The All-American Steakhouse & Sports Theatre

The All-American Steakhouse & Sports Theatre is a regional chain with 3 locations in VA and 2 in MD.  Featuring wet and dry aged corn-fed midwestern beef, along with all of your other bar favorites, you won't have any excuse not to be hungry when you walk in. The kitchen is located right near the door, so you get smacked with a waft of sizzling beef the second you step in. Which isn't a bad thing, honestly. The Greene Turtle

One name that has been synonymous with Ocean City, MD is The Greene Turtle.  We're sure most of us started going there before we really should have *wink wink*, if but for the chance to buy one of their famous t-shirts.  What has started out as a beach sports bar in 1976 has now grown to be a regional brand name, turning up in more locations as the days go on with over 35 locations across DE, MD, VA, and DC.  While mostly known as being a sports bar, they do have a pretty lengthy menu featuring some menu items that is not your typical pub grub.  Like any restaurant representing Maryland, they do serve crab cakes.  Should you break out of the ordinary to try one, or stick to the ribs and wings?  Let's find out!

The Salty Pelican

Every now and again, the CCR gets to travel to places outside of the MD/DC area. Sometimes its for vacation, other times its for a work-sponsored vacati....er.....conference. So we had the chance to travel to Amelia Island, FL, just outside of Jacksonville along the Florida/Georgia border. One night of the conference included an excursion to Fernandia Beach, which is home to the Salty Pelican. The Salty Pelican only opened up in 2012, and was awarded Best Restaurant/Neighborhood Bar on Amelia Island by Folio Weekly's Best of Jax in 2014.  Coastal Florida is known for seafood, so we couldn't resist trying some crab cakes. Were they worth the trip? Read on and find out!

The Seafood Boss

Food trucks can be a wonderful thing. We like to think of them as a roving food court that typically changes assemblages daily. One one such stroll down the food trucks at Franklin Square, we noticed The Seafood Boss. "Home of the All Lump Crab Cakes" that are also world-famous and award-winning. With claims like that, you know that the CCR had to check them out in our quest to find decent crab cakes in DC. Follow along as we sample their crab cakes and see what the hubbub is all about!

Waterfront Bistro

Continuing on with the store-bought crab cakes, today we turn our sights to the frozen seafood section of our local Safeway.  Waterfront Bistro is Safeway's new private label line of frozen seafood and sauces.  I was actually trying to find the Phillip's frozen crab cakes when I came across this package (Phillip's was no where to be found at this Safeway).  Being the inquisitive type, the Crab Cake Review decided to take one for the team and give them a shot.  Read on to see how well this experiment went.
