Weekly reviews of crab cakes around the MD and DC area

Nick's Fish House

Nick's Fish House is a fairly large establishment, located right on the water in South Baltimore. It's not the easiest place to find as the roads get a little wonky over by the Hanover St. bridge, but once you find it, you won't be disappointed. Open year-round, Nick's has indoor and outdoor seating, water views, cold beer, fresh crabs, and live entertainment. Slips are available if you arrive by boat, or you can just walk over if you arrive by cruise ship. You'd expect a place that knows crabs and seafood to have a stellar crab cake. Were we disappointed? Read on to find out!

Ocean City Brewing Company

This week, the CCR continues their vacation coverage of Ocean City, MD. A town certainly known for crabs, and where there are crabs, you will find crab cakes. But you'll also find beer. And what better way to enjoy a beer than to go right to the source. That's just what we did when we went to visit the Ocean City Brewing Company. Relatively new to the area, they opened in May 2014 and have enjoyed success since then. The easy formulas are always winners: good beer, good food, good people. Were the crab cakes the perfect accompaniment to their craft beers? Let's find out!

Ocean Pride Seafood

Ocean Pride has been gracing the Lutherville/Timonium area since 1971. At that time, the place was owned by Robert Curreri. The Bielski brothers worked at Ocean Pride as crab steamers from the time the place opened until 1980. Then, in 2004, they bought the place and have been running it ever since. Not only has Ocean Pride been acknowledged as some of Baltimore's best crabs, they also have a store onsite that sells seafood (such as crabs, crab cakes, lobsters, etc.), adult beverages, and restaurant swag (t-shirts, coolers, etc.). The CCR stopped by to see how their crab cakes stack up against everyone else's. Read on to see how they were!

Old South Smoke House

The Old South Smoke House is a local BBQ joint located north of downtown Port Deposit. If it wasn't for the neon beer signs, you might actually mistake it for someone's house. That house is actually a 200+ year old house that used to serve as part post office and part something else. The house was relocated to its current location, which comprises almost half of the restaurant. It's small, it's quaint, it smells like BBQ when you step inside, and they advertise crab cakes. Of course, that just means that we had to stop by! Follow along and see how our visit went!
