Cedar Crossing is a cozy little wine bar and restaurant tucked away next to the Metro station in the Takoma neighborhood of DC (while next to Takoma Park, MD (right on the border, in fact) it is still in DC).  As little bistros go, this one is your typical DC establishment -- a little bit of all types of cuisines, no real one style or genre defining their menu.  A date spot that is not too pretentious or fancy, and somewhere where the locals like to hang out.  The chefs will even come out to talk to you and see how you like your entrees.  And don't even get me started on the beer selection.

So while they do have a set menu, they also like to put different items on special.  I've passed by this place a few times this past summer where crab cakes were on special, but had usually already had dinner at that point.  So the last time I noticed that crab cakes were on special again, I made a special point to go in, as you never know when they'll be coming back.  Once you walk inside, the entire place was filled with the smell of sweet, delicious crab (mind you, the place isn't very big).  So was the special of the day truly special?  Let's find out!

Wholesale clubs are definitely an experience, especially when you get to the food isles. Free samples, nuclear-fallout-shelter-sized packages, super-sized carts, and just about anything you could ever want in bulk (along with a few things that you never knew you wanted in bulk). When it comes to the food, there is the age old question, "Will I like this enough to eat it for the next 5 months?" Or maybe "Will my party guests unfriend me on Facebook if I serve them this?" Especially around the Mid Atlantic region, serving crab cakes will make you the party host of the year. The only problem is that they need to be good. We'll bet you didn't know that Pizza Boli's started over 25 years ago up in the Baltimore neighborhood of Mount Washington.  Nowadays, they have over 70 stores in the MD, VA, PA and DC area, being voted best pizza by the Washingtonian Magazine, and touting that they offer more product variety than any other major pizza chain.  They are also innovators in recyclable container technology with their SmartBox pizza boxes.  Along with that, one of their newest pizza offerings is the Old Bay Crab Pizza.  Being a Baltimore company, one is going to probably assume that they know a thing or two about crabs.  (Isn't that usually the case?)  So how did their newest pizza offering turn out?  Let's find out!

I don't think Red Lobster needs any introduction. The thought of going there for crab cakes has always been a joke around the office. With all of these excellent crab cakes in the area, why would anyone go to Red Lobster for them? We were surprised that they serve live lobsters and fresh fish. But crab cakes are a bit dubious. This past weekend was the Fell's Point Fun Festival in Baltimore, an annual event for the Fells Point Preservation Society in its 45th year.  Originally created to raise awareness of the historic neighborhood's slated destruction to make way for a highway, the festival has grown larger and larger over the years showcasing what this 18th century neighborhood has to offer.

One big draw of a street festival, aside from the free entertainment and the lure of the beer garden (especially the one serving Heavy Seas!) are the variety of food stands offering a wide variety of food.  Baltimore isn't just known for its crabs, but also for serving up some mean pit beef, Polish sausages and, if you're lucky, lake trout.  But food options aside, one food stand that had to make an appearance is Sherri's.  

Sherri's Crab Cakes can be found at various festivals and shows up and down the East Coast.  They even go so far as to claim that they are the best concession crab cake sandwich.  Given that they started their business based on the fact that the festival crab cake offerings weren't very good, coupled with the fact that they had multiple stands at the festival, as well as a mail order business, they must be doing something right.  So how were these magical concession crab cakes?  Follow along and find out!
