The Black Olive is an authentic Greek restaurant, located right in the heart of Fells Point. Constantly being rated as one of Baltimore's best restaurants, and receiving high accolades by Wine Spectator, this is one place that needs to be experienced when visiting the city. Everything they do is organic, so you can expect everything to be fresh from the sea or farm to your table. If you have the chance, take the waiter up on the "fish tour", where you'll get a first hand look at that day's catch, as well as platters of meat. And for once, the CCR bypassed the fresh fish and opted instead for, what else, crab cakes! Read on to see if they were every bit as fresh as the catch of the day!
If we told you that a seafood restaurant and a comedy club shared the same space, would you think it's funny? Neither did we, but it's still something you don't see everyday. In case you haven't heard, The Bowman has been a Baltimore staple for over 30 years, known for their famous crab cakes, in addition to their other menu items, such as steaks, seafood, burgers, etc. Baltimore Magazine rated them one of Baltimore's Top 25 Crab Cakes in 2013. Read on to find out if The Bowman's crab cakes are truly among the best in Baltimore, or if we should be laughing.
The Charred Rib at The Barn (otherwise known as The Barn), has been many things over the years. A rest stop for farmers heading to Broadway Market, a grocery store, a dance hall and saloon, and nowadays, a tap house, rib shack, and crab house. Recently remodeled in 2013, this location has been known as The Barn since 1980. Having a crab house on site would make us think that the crab cakes are as good as the crabs themselves smell. Read on to find out if they were!
The Crackpot Restaurant has been around since 1972, and was one of the first crab houses to fly crabs in from Louisiana year round. The crab house is termed "retro" for its decor that most likely hasn't changed since they opened. Despite the decor, they have earned numerous awards for their crabs and crab cakes, most recently being featured in 2013 by Towson Magazine and Baltimore Magazine (making their Top 25 Crab Cakes of 2013 list). The Crackpot is also one of the few places in Baltimore who dare to offer flavored crab cakes, as well as claim to have the largest crab cake in town (20oz!). With such history and reputation on the line, we, naturally, had to see if the Crackpot is all that it's cracked up to be. Curious? Read on and see what we thought!
The Fish Market has been around since 1976, traveling around different locations in the DC Metro area, and are currently located in Clinton, MD, which is right outside of Andrews AFB. Upon walking in, you definitely get the old seafood house feeling with the decor of the restaurant. On Wednesday through Sundays, The House Band entertains patrons, which features one of the owners on drums. But we're not here to party. We're here because we love crab cakes. So how were they? Let's find out!
