Weekly reviews of crab cakes around the MD and DC area

Luna Del Sea

For over 10 years, Luna Del Sea has been entertaining tourists and locals alike with fresh seafood and sizzling steaks. And the location is prime: right on Pratt St near Camden Yards, M&T Bank Stadium, the Convention Center, a good number of the major hotels in the downtown area, and so forth. If you're like us, you've noticed the place many times, but haven't been able to stop in, either because of traffic, time constraints, or the line out the door on a busy night (they do have a pretty nice outdoor seating area). But despite how fancy the establishment appears, the dress code is casual, so feel free to wear your Oriole's orange or Ravens camo. We happened to stop by after a phenomenal Orioles win one night, and checked out one of the specialties of the house -- crab cakes! Check out the review to see what we thought!

Lures

Lures is a local watering hole that prides itself on its extensive craft beer selection and regional cuisine, and has been around since 2008. They were even voted Best Hidden Gem by the Annapolis What's Up? Mag in 2011 (and we also reviewed their Chesapeake Chachos back in October 2011). Just glance around the place, and you'll wonder what they love more -- beer or fishing. The two naturally go hand-in-hand, so for now we'll call it even. But where there is beer and fish, there are crab cakes. And Lures provides. How were they? Let's find out!

Mamie's Cafe

When you walk into Mamie's Cafe, you are instantly transported from the strip mall that it's located in to Grandma's kitchen and living room. Gone is the overshadowing glances of the Home Depot, the line of cars at Wendy's, or the throngs of cars flying by on Route 22. Originally located in Hampden, Mamie's Cafe is now located just off of 95 in Aberdeen.  The Cafe is an homage to old fashioned home-cooked meals, and friendly service with a smile, where every meal ends in with a complementary dessert (offered for here or to go). The sign out front adds "with love" to the name. Do the crab cakes get the same love that the customers do? Let's find out!

Obrycki's Backfin Crab Cake

[Part 1 of 2]  The Crab Cake Review starts its site off with a visit to Obrycki's in Upper Fells Point.  Since 1944, Obrycki's has been serving up crabs with their own special seasoning blend, along with other seafood treats.  When asking where to go for crab cakes in Baltimore, one might be pointed over in this direction.  But is it worth the trip?  Let's find out.

Old South Smoke House

The Old South Smoke House is a local BBQ joint located north of downtown Port Deposit. If it wasn't for the neon beer signs, you might actually mistake it for someone's house. That house is actually a 200+ year old house that used to serve as part post office and part something else. The house was relocated to its current location, which comprises almost half of the restaurant. It's small, it's quaint, it smells like BBQ when you step inside, and they advertise crab cakes. Of course, that just means that we had to stop by! Follow along and see how our visit went!
