Sláinte

If it's the one thing you can always count on an Irish bar for, and that's for having footie on the teles at any given opportunity, in addition to a never ending supply of Guinness on draft. But what you might not expect is the cloth napkins or high end restaurant quality food. That's where Sláinte comes in. Part of a group of interconnected restaurants (Kooper's Tavern and Woody's Rum Bar) at the corner of Thames and Broadway in the heart of Fells Point, you've most likely walked past and only ever thought about the beer, but didn't notice that they were voted Best of Baltimore multiple times by the City Paper and Baltimore Magazine. Until you stop in for a pint and get hooked on their Celtic Wings or the Scotch Egg. But never mind the fish and chips, we're here for the crab cakes. Take a culinary journey with us to see how this gastropub handles our beloved crab!

Sinatra.  Sammy Davis Jr.  Ella Fitzgerald.  Walking into Supano's Steakhouse is like walking back into the good old days.  Cobblestone streets on the outside, wood and brick on the inside.  Sinatra-era music filling the restaurant.  Supano's Steakhouse has been a family-owned steakhouse since 1937.  It's a place you would think to find in Little Italy, but is located over by the Inner Harbor.  Water St is a bit hard to miss, seeing as how from the Light St side, it looks like a small alley that you can't drive on.  So how was it, once you stopped circling the block?  Let's find out!

From the outside, the Swallow At The Hollow appears to be a dingy dive bar, and for the most part, it actually is. But that's what gives such establishments its charm, right? (This IS Charm City, after all!) The Swallow has been around since the 1940's, and until recently, not really a place that you'd see yourself getting a high quality culinary meal, thanks to the exposure given to it by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Intrigued by the Ghost Pepper Honey wings, we also noticed their claims to have one of the best crab cakes in Baltimore. Which you know we just had to check out! One of Baltimore Magazine's Top 25 Crab Cakes of 2013! The Thames St. Oyster House opened in historic Fells Point back in July of 2011, converting an old 2-story storehouse into the appropriately themed restaurant that it is today. While the main draw may be on oysters, they do serve authentic and traditional Mid-Atlantic and New England style seafood. The big draw for us, however, is their Cast Iron Crab Cake, which uses nothing but East Coast Blue crab. Given that this place is almost impossible to visit during "normal" hours without reservations, we managed to finally get a table (yes, with a reservation!). Was it worth the wait? The Black Olive

The Black Olive is an authentic Greek restaurant, located right in the heart of Fells Point.  Constantly being rated as one of Baltimore's best restaurants, and receiving high accolades by Wine Spectator, this is one place that needs to be experienced when visiting the city.  Everything they do is organic, so you can expect everything to be fresh from the sea or farm to your table.  If you have the chance, take the waiter up on the "fish tour", where you'll get a first hand look at that day's catch, as well as platters of meat.  And for once, the CCR bypassed the fresh fish and opted instead for, what else, crab cakes!  Read on to see if they were every bit as fresh as the catch of the day!
