Todd Conner's Fells Point Ultimate Crab Cake Todd Conner's Fells Point Ultimate Crab Cake Crab Cake Review

To pass by Todd Conner's (or as it's referred to around the neighborhood:  TC's), one would not think that this would be a quality eating establishment.  If you're looking for someplace where you can sit down at a table for a meal, you'll probably keep walking as you'll more than likely notice that large bar area in the front half of the restaurant, and the size/age of the clientele (which tends to be on the younger side, not that there's anything wrong with that).  But push past the crowds, and you'll see tables for eating in the back, as well as on the sidewalk if it's nice out.  (There is also a back door on Aliceanna as well)  While many businesses have occupied this space, Todd Conner's has been there since 2007, and seems to be a popular place to hang out and enjoy your Boh's and O's.  But we're not here for beers and baseball (well, ok, maybe).  We're here for crab cakes.  How do they compare?  Read along and find out!

Crab cake platter is served with a red pepper aioli, fries and slaw (although you can sub one of the sides out, of which there are many options).  A single platter is also available, as well as a crab cake sandwich (comes with red pepper aioli and house chips).  No tartar or cocktail sauce is served with the platters, nor was any offered (most likely rendered unnecessary by the red pepper aioli).  Lemon garnish served on the plate, and a shaker of Old Bay is provided.  Crab cakes are each topped with 3 jumbo lumps of crab meat.

While there are some jumbo lumps of crab meat in the cakes, most of the meat is broken up or shredded.  The flavor, though, is nice and sweet.  Bread crumb filler helps keep everything nice and moist.  The cake itself doesn't seem to be overly seasoned, which allows the crab meat flavor to shine through.  The red pepper aioli adds a nice flavor without overpowering.

TC's crab cake is definitely worth pushing past the crowds for.  I knocked a half crab off for the crab meat being broken up and stringy.  Luckily, the cake was not dry at all, and the stringiness did not come across in the mouthfeel.  But personal preference would be for more intact lumps of crab meat.
