Schultz's Crab House Jumbo Lump Crab Cake

Schultz's Crab House is a Baltimore landmark that dates back to 1950. When Schultz's first moved into their current building, it housed three separate storefornts: the bar, a spaghetti carry-out, and an appliance store. After knocking down some walls and moving some things around, Schultz's Lounge was in business. The Lounge operated as a barroom only until 1969, when the liquor license was sold to the current owners, who then renamed the business to what we know it as today. With all of this history, in addition to the business' longevity, we would expect them to know a thing or two about crab cakes. Read on to see how our adventure was!

Seacrets

When Marylanders go "downy ocean, hon", one popular destination to go is Seacrets.  If you are not familiar with Seacrets, then you may want to pay them a visit at least once in your life, if for the atmosphere alone.  Seacrets has something for everyone, from a restaurant to a tiki bar to floating tables in the bay, and yes, even live music and a night club.  Billed as Jamaica USA, Seacrets is that little island paradise in the middle of Coastal Highway, complete with sand everywhere and palm trees.  Spend any amount of time there, and you'll eventually get hungry.  Dare you leave and go elsewhere, possibly with a wait (especially true if you are visiting in-season)?  Or do you stay put and let the good times roll?  Allow us to make your decision easier with our review of their crab cakes.  Worth the stay, or should you ship out?  Read on and find out what we thought!

Were they good enough to make us kiss the blarney stone, or do they get the shillelagh stick treatment? Let's find out!

Skipjack's Crab House

Skipjack's Crab House has a long history behind it, despite only being open since 2009. There was a seafood wholesaler/retailer down in Louisiana (Seaside Seafood) that would provide Louisiana crabs to a few select crab houses in the Baltimore area that started in the early 70's. Around 2003, two college buddies bought that business, and relocated the carry out to Glen Burnie, which they still operate (known as "The Carry-Out"). Skipjack's exists because they wanted to expand to the north side of Baltimore and be the go-to place for Louisiana-style seafood. While they're not featuring Maryland crabs, Louisiana crabs are often flown in during the off season and are still pretty tasty. But where their crab cakes just as delicious? Let's find out!

Swallow At The Hollow

From the outside, the Swallow At The Hollow appears to be a dingy dive bar, and for the most part, it actually is. But that's what gives such establishments its charm, right? (This IS Charm City, after all!) The Swallow has been around since the 1940's, and until recently, not really a place that you'd see yourself getting a high quality culinary meal, thanks to the exposure given to it by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Intrigued by the Ghost Pepper Honey wings, we also noticed their claims to have one of the best crab cakes in Baltimore. Which you know we just had to check out! Read along to find out what we thought!
