Towson Tavern
Usually when you think of a tavern, you think casual. But when you walk into the Towson Tavern, you step into an environment where casual meets upscale. Located where the Reicher Theater and Rec Room used to be, the Towson Tavern creates a sophisticated, but casual, environment serving regional American cuisine. And what's more regional than crab cakes, right? Follow along and see how the Towson Tavern represents Maryland!
The Towson Tavern serves crab cakes as a double entree alongside grilled asparagus, creamed corn, and creole mustard sauce. The menu is seasonal, so the side dishes, or the menu availability, may change. Be sure to check with the restaurant before you go if crab cakes are on your mind. Prices are market priced.
Crab cakes feature a good mix of jump lumps of crab meat and backfin, held together with a binder of mainly egg and bread, along with some Dijon mustard and spices. While the spicing is a bit on the salty side, it works well with the crab meat and isn't too aggressive.
These crab cakes are a definite must try! The crab meat is nice and sweet, really showcasing what Maryland Blue crab is all about. And the spicing really rounds out the flavor profile. Luckily, the creole mustard sauce comes on the side, allowing you to use as much or as little as you'd like. The sauce is tasty by itself, and just elevates the crab cake when used in conjunction.
