Weekly reviews of crab cakes around the MD and DC area

Gunpowder Lodge Crab Alfredo Pizza

Last week, we reviewed the Gunpowder Lodge's crab cake. We liked it so much, that we had to review one other crab-related item on their menu -- the Crab Alfredo Pizza. We've tried a similar product in the past, and were less than pleased. Everything else coming out of the GPL's kitchen looked tasty, so why not? So put your crab bib on, get your hunger in check, and continue on to see what we thought!

Gypsy Queen Cafe

The best thing about food trucks is that, besides the potential for inventive, high quality food, but the fact that they come to you! Well, maybe not to your front door, but at least close enough that you could more than likely walk to them. Enter the Gypsy Queen Cafe, voted Baltimore's best food truck for the past 6 years. Jack's Bistro

Jack's Bistro is located right around the corner from O'Donnell Square in Canton, and bills itself as offering innovative American cuisine.  Innovative is most certainly right!  While some menu items stick around (like the chocolate macaroni and cheese, and the burger made of nothing but bacon), others get replaced often, so there is always a reason to go back.  If you can't figure out what to have for dessert, they are known for their peanut butter and jelly shots.  So now that everyone is drooling, let's get back to our focus here -- crab cakes!  Wipe the drool on your leave, and read on to see how the experience was!

Now with two locations (Power Plant Live! and North Avenue), Joe Squared is the place to go for a family friendly atmosphere, live music, and an extensive food and drink list. But pizzas are pizzas, and crab cakes are crab cakes. So how did Joe do? Read along and see for yourself!

Kent Island Crab Cakes

Kent Island Crab Cakes is a mail order seafood company located in, where else, but Kent Island, MD. A family-run business since the early 1980's, Kent Island Crab Cakes strives to exclusively use Blue Crab meat from the Chesapeake Bay. While crab cakes are their main attraction, they offer much more than that. They also sell a wide variety of seafood delights, delicious soups (both the Vegetable Crab and Cream of Crab are excellent!), meats, and desserts. While we might get distracted by a Smith Island cake, we're here for the crab cakes. So we placed an order for our holiday dinner and invited the family over. Read on to find out what we thought!
