The Tidewater Grille is located right on the Susquehanna River, complete with outdoor seating overlooking the water, and free boat docking for their customers. No matter where you sit, you'll always have a view of the river, and everything happening in and around it. In fact, this is Havre de Grace's only waterfront restaurant. So seeing as how you can't get any closer to the water, you would hope that they know how to do seafood right. Fighting the urge to try one of everything on their menu, we ordered what we always order -- crab cakes! Read on and see if you should drop anchor or set sail for somewhere else!

Timbuktu is one of those names that will come up in the ever going debate on who has the best crab cakes in Baltimore.  Often considered part of the unofficial first family of crab cakes, Timbuktu has been around for at least 30 years.  Though not quite as famous as G&M, they run in the same circles with the likes of G&M, Hella's, Romano's, and Pappas.  So you at least know what you're in for, if your friends haven't told you already.  While the inside might be a bit dated, the crab cakes are timeless, and have won numerous awards.  Are they still the real deal after all this time?  We set out to answer this question.  Read on!

To pass by Todd Conner's (or as it's referred to around the neighborhood:  TC's), one would not think that this would be a quality eating establishment.  If you're looking for someplace where you can sit down at a table for a meal, you'll probably keep walking as you'll more than likely notice that large bar area in the front half of the restaurant, and the size/age of the clientele (which tends to be on the younger side, not that there's anything wrong with that).  But push past the crowds, and you'll see tables for eating in the back, as well as on the sidewalk if it's nice out.  (There is also a back door on Aliceanna as well)  While many businesses have occupied this space, Todd Conner's has been there since 2007, and seems to be a popular place to hang out and enjoy your Boh's and O's.  But we're not here for beers and baseball (well, ok, maybe).  We're here for crab cakes.  How do they compare?  Read along and find out!

What more can you say about Trader Joe's that hasn't already been said?  They're a private label upscale grocery store that puts as much emphasis into the quality of their products as they do keeping their prices extraordinarily low.  And if you happen to live in a state that allows them to sell beer and wine, they have an exceptional selection of private label and name brand wines for dirt cheap (even though the Two Buck Chuck no longer costs $2, it's still pretty damn cheap).

With all of these culinary treats available at affordable prices, it almost becomes a challenge to see if you can make it out of there with just two grocery bags and to keep costs under $40.  Although it doesn't help when they have sample stations set up so you can try products you were recently introduced, or ones that you might easily pass over.  But, then again, this is America, where we like to keep ourselves fat and happy.

Speaking of which, on a recent Trader Joe's run, there was a specific item that happened to jump into the shopping cart while walking down the frozen fish aisle.  It was as if it was meant to be.  That's right -- Maryland Style Crab Cakes.  And for only $3.29!  At that price, you figure, "How bad can it be?"  Well, dear readers, this is what we are here to find out.  So continue reading and see how it all worked out!
