BlueStone is a locally owned and managed seafood restaurant in Timonium, MD. Not quite on York Rd., BlueStone is located near the fairgrounds, but off the beaten path to the point that you've probably been near it several times and never known it. They've earned Trip Advisor's Certificate of Excellence for 2014, and a nod from Baltimore Magazine's Best Crab Cakes of 2009. We guess you could consider them a "hidden gem", if you will. But the real question is: how have BlueStone's crab cakes come since 2009? Read on and find out!

If it's one thing that Baltimoreans love, it's carry out seafood. Particularly, crabs. Waterman's Pride is a family business, owned and operated by local MD Waterman Captain Tony Vicari since 2006. All of the crabs are caught by Tony, ensuring the freshest crab their customers can buy. In addition to crabs, they also offer fresh quality seafood, both prepared and frozen. We were originally introduced to Waterman's Pride last summer, thanks to a Groupon for 2 dozen crabs at an outstanding price. And seeing how amazing those crabs were, we knew we had to try their crab cakes. Were they worth the wait? Read on and find out!

Or you can go the more economical route, and bring some crabs home from a carryout joint like Bill's Seafood. For over 35 years, Bill's has been steaming crabs year round. Crabs are sourced from our local watermen, as well as from Louisiana, Texas, and North Carolina to provide steamed crabs year-round. You can carry out (either through online ordering or by stopping by on a whim), or they can cater your party. When you think Tex Mex, crab cakes don't really come to mind, now do they? No, they don't. So when you visit the El Rodeo in Edgewood, you'll be as surprised as we were to find crab cakes on their menu! (Well, maybe not anymore because we told you!) El Rodeo is a Tex Mex restaurant that also offers late night entertainment. Where else can you eat crab cakes and ride a mechanical bull (first Thursday of every month)? Located in the same parking lot as a Motel 6, you might be leery of stopping by. But we're brave souls who also like a good margarita. Read on to see if Tex Mex and crab cakes go hand in hand!

Price's Seafood has been serving Havre de Grace in its original location since 1944. They consider themselves to be one of the few original "Maryland" crab houses still in operation. You know you're in a legit crab house when all of the tables are lined with brown paper by default, the air smells of seafood seasoning, two different kinds of crab soup are always on the menu, and crackin' crab is the main attraction. Ze Mean Bean Café started out as just a coffee house back in 1995, serving light fare and traditional Eastern European cuisine, alongside desserts, coffee, and tea. Since then, they have expanded into a full-service wine and dining destination. In the land of pierogies, galumpkies, and kielbasa, you wouldn't expect to find a crab cake. But this is Bawlmer, hon! Crab cakes are everywhere, and it's always fun finding them in unexpected places. Read on to find out how the Eastern European take on our beloved crab cake was!

Tamberino's has been family-owned and serving Harford County for over two decades. While they are a pizza shop at first glance, there are two things they pride themselves on: Italian favorites and crab cakes. Given the crowd that is usually at the restaurant, we can clearly see that they are popular. Located next to The Lodge, Tamberino's does look like a classic Italian sub shop. But what you don't expect is the very generous serving sizes! We do know that pizza joints can kick out some serious crab cakes. Was Tamberino's one of them? Let's find out!

Mo's Seafood is no stranger to the CCR. In fact, Mo's Crab and Pasta Factory was one of our very first reviews. Just in case you're not familiar, Mo's Seafood has been serving quality seafood in the Baltimore area for more than 25 years. There are 5 locations around the area, with a 6th coming to White Marsh. Despite our experience at the Factory with the backfin crab cakes, friend of the CCR, Donna F, had enthusiastically urged us to go to Mo's back in 2012. So it was finally time to revisit Mo's at a different location. Was it worth the trip? Let's find out!

In case you haven't heard, The Bowman has been a Baltimore staple for over 30 years, known for their famous crab cakes, in addition to their other menu items, such as steaks, seafood, burgers, etc. Baltimore Magazine rated them one of Baltimore's Top 25 Crab Cakes in 2013.
