Alexander's Tavern is a neighborhood bar located in the historic Fells Point section of Baltimore. You may get confused by which door to go into (one goes into the restaurant, the other goes into the bar area), but that shouldn't stop you from coming in. You may not know by looking at the place, but they've won numerous awards, from a "Best of" from FourSquare in the Food category, to 3rd Best Pub by Baltimore Magazine Readers in 2012. If the happy hour specials won't pull you in, then the astounding selection of tots will. But knowing us, we're all about the crab cakes with a side of tots. So we checked out Alexander's one day to check out how they were. Read along to see how our visit went!

If it's the one thing you can always count on an Irish bar for, and that's for having footie on the teles at any given opportunity, in addition to a never ending supply of Guinness on draft. But what you might not expect is the cloth napkins or high end restaurant quality food. That's where Sláinte comes in. Part of a group of interconnected restaurants (Kooper's Tavern and Woody's Rum Bar) at the corner of Thames and Broadway in the heart of Fells Point, you've most likely walked past and only ever thought about the beer, but didn't notice that they were voted Best of Baltimore multiple times by the City Paper and Baltimore Magazine. Until you stop in for a pint and get hooked on their Celtic Wings or the Scotch Egg. But never mind the fish and chips, we're here for the crab cakes. If you've ever spent any time driving on I-95 in NE MD, you may have noticed a large crab on one of those restaurant exit signs. That sign would be for Woody's Crab House, located in, you guessed it, North East, MD. Woody's Crab House serves up Chesapeake cuisine in a casual environment, specializing in steamed crabs and crab cakes. And after a tour of their website, it would seem that they also organize vacation tours (if only there was a real Old Bay Beach...). So while crabs weren't fully in season when we were at Woody's, they still had plenty of crab cakes available. Are they good enough to stake their reputation on? Read along and see what we thought!
