Laurrapin Grille

What exactly is a laurrapin? According to their website, this is an Appalachian or Southern term commonly used to describe tasty "po' folk foods", and goes on to further describe the term as "being over the top in delectable flavor, seasoning, and texture....a memorable meal". Since 2001, this restaurant has been churning culinary delights featuring locally grown products, being one small business that supports other small businesses. They take pride in the source of their food, and their menu invites you to meet their farmers. So with so much expectation in deliciousness, one would expect the crab cakes to be nothing short of spectacular. How did they hold up? Let's find out!

Lib's Grill

Lib's Grill is a new venture from a well known Italian restaurant chain, Liberatore's. Instead of opening yet another Italian restaurant location, they opened a new raw bar concept (which happens to be a few doors down from one of their Italian restaurant locations). You'll find an extensive oyster bar, in addition to steaks, sandwiches, flatbreads, and seafood. Which, of course, includes crab cakes. Little Havana

It's hard to believe that Little Havana has been around for 20 years! What was an old abandoned warehouse was transformed into a Cuban getaway right in South Baltimore. Known for their consistency, killer mojitos, and super fun Brunch, Little Havana has quickly become a staple in the Federal Hill neighborhood. So you really don't think of crab cakes when you think Cuban food, but it wouldn't be Baltimore if a crab cake wasn't on the menu. Loeb's NY Deli

Downtown Washington DC has lots of options for the lunchtime crowd. But what's more classic than eating at a kosher-style deli? Enter Loeb's NY Deli. Loeb's first opened in 1959 by Walter Loeb, in the location currently occupied by the Old Ebbitt Grill. In the 1970's, they moved to the US Export-Import Bank building, but was then forced to move a few doors down in 2012. You'll find everything you'd expect in a Jewish deli, along with our favorite, crab cakes! Read on to find out how they did!
